Traditional Market Eatery
台北南門市場
Taipei Nanmen Market
Taipei Nanmen Market dates back to 1906, originally an open-air market located outside the South Gate of old Taipei City, known as “Chitose Town Market” during the Japanese colonial period. As Taipei grew, Nanmen Market evolved into a key traditional market and distribution center for fruits and vegetables. After Taiwan’s retrocession in 1945, the market expanded to include a wide variety of stalls selling fish, meat, vegetables, and more, becoming one of the largest and most comprehensive markets in Taipei. Recently, Nanmen Market underwent multiple renovations and was fully rebuilt in 2023 into a 12-story building featuring eco-friendly green architecture while preserving its traditional vendors and specialty food stalls. It remains a beloved destination for both locals and tourists seeking authentic Taiwanese market experiences.
